Evergreen What does one say about Echtra? Echtra is something special. Echtra is something deep. It was some time close to this, 10 years ago that I heard the first part of this “Passage Cycle”, beginning with Sky Burial. This conclusion to the cycle is something I am at an absolute loss for words on. I cannot articulate what this experience has meant to me, and perhaps it is better that I don’t. Let yourself experience this your own way. Thank you, Echtra. I cannot thank you enough.

Echtra’s “Re-Enterior” is the completion of the Passage Cycle, Echtra’s tripartite exploration of the soul’s journey through the transitory states between existences. Having mined the depths of death on “Sky Burial” and journeyed into the interstitial realm of the “BardO,” “Re-Enterior” sonically explores return. An imagining of each vital essence’s reemergence into form, this aural document celebrates the auspiciousness of a fortunate human birth for this creator and each person reading these words.
Employing a wider array of instrumentation than on previous releases, this investigation of rebirth also opens into a more dynamic and unrestrained expressive modality. The stirrings of strings and brass are added to the preexisting foundation of acoustic and electric guitars, as more variegated percussion induces rhythmic expansion. Varying vocal styles also signify a fuller expression of the Echtral impulse, while each song’s structure employs repetition to open up a space for consciousness to widen and unfocusedly engage with this opportunity for transcendent awareness. In this, a fuller inhabiting and embrace of corporeality and the unspeakable magnificence of existence can perhaps be achieved.
“Re-Enterior” was crafted for ritual performance in the long ago of MMXII and enacted with Corvus that Winter Solstice at the Cryptatropa as part of the final Yule on December 21st, 2012. Many of the relics sacred to Echtra were destroyed in a glorious pyre, those artifacts that induced artifice severed from their corporeal form. The myth returned anew yet again, in a different form, a decade after Echtra’s inception. The piece then entered into decrepitude, moldering on a hard-drive in the intervening years. It is exhumed now, over a decade later, on this most auspicious date of 3/23/23, for the benefit of all beings and as a final salvo in the battle against materialism Echtra has represented. Now that the machine no longer has a grip on my heart, this weapon can be relinquished…
